Bleeding is the most common side effect of plastic surgeries. Being an invasive procedure, hematoma (blood clotting under skin) can cause overlying skin to be bluish or purple. Scarring is sometimes unavoidable; however, plastic surgeons can hide the cuts in “non-visible” areas.
Negative reactions to anesthesia, though very rare, are possible. These may cause temporary nausea and sore throat. Lastly, in extremely rare cases, the surgery may cause nerve damages. This may lead to temporary muscular paralysis.
